Local information

Less densely populated and with more parks and open spaces than other quarters of Outer London, Watford is a very desirable area in which to
live.
Transport and travel
There are excellent rail services into Central London and the
City via the mainline (into Euston) and the London Underground (Metropolitan
line) as well as a good local and regional bus service. Main rail, coach and road routes facilitate easy access to and from London, around the M25 and also to the north via the M1 and A1, as well to East Anglia via the M11 and A12 all off the M25.
Entertainment
Watford is rich in cultural, sporting, entertainment, architectural and historic
attractions. The High Street and renowned Harlequin Centre
provide excellent shopping facilities throughout the week. The
top of the High Street has recently undergone a multi-million pound
refurbishment to develop the Cafe Quarter - providing a wealth of
cafes and coffee bars for during the day as well as more lively
evening entertainment with numerous bars, varied restaurants, night
clubs and Jongleurs comedy club.
If you're looking for something a little more high brow The
Palace Theatre has an annual series of productions - some of which
have gone on to the West End. The Watford Colosseum provides a
wide variety of classical and pop concerts and enjoys a tradition as
one of the top recording venues in Europe. Then the Watford
Museum and nearby St Albans fulfil those with historical interests.
Leisure and outdoors
Leisure facilities in and around
Watford are plentiful. There are many gyms around the town,
two large communal swimming pools (Central Baths and at the Bill
Everett Centre) plus Woodside Leisure Centre with indoor facilities
(including squash, badminton, gym and various aerobics classes) and
outdoor football pitches and an athletics stadium. For the less
energetic Cassiobury Park and Whippendell Woods combine to bring the
Green Belt into the town with space to relax and escape on a sunny
day, though it does incorporate lawn tennis, croquet and bowling
clubs. With paddling pools and a miniature train, then the
river and Grand Union Canal running through it, there's plenty for
the children to see and do as well. Looking for more green
space? Well just a short drive and you are transported into
the Chilterns with opportunities for rambling, cycling and country
pub lunches! Of course, this is just a taster! We will be pleased to share our local knowledge
with you and also point you towards sources of further information on
